Warehouse Metrics – training

This past Wednesday and Thursday, Wills Management and employees joined together in Smiths Falls for training on ‘Warehouse Metrics – to make your business even more effective’. Mark Thomas, of Meta Management Consulting, ran the training seminar for both days. Mark is a certified Project Management Professional and Professional Engineer. He is an established business consultant for engineering and business education, logistics and manufacturing improvement, and third party logistics.

The key elements of the seminar:

  • the value and use of proper metrics
  • what makes a company strong
  • introduce the WERC (warehouse education research council) bench-marking resource material
  • display 13 key metrics identified by Wills Transfer and discuss why it’s important, the driver of performance behind each one, calculate recent performance, identify 2 actions to improve the result, and how Wills Transfer bench-marks with other DC companies.

Grant Paynter, Ottawa Wills Branch Manager, shared; “our day of training, more particularly the morning,  was educational and motivating. Mark helped us realize that there are many things that we may already be doing regarding metrics measurements; however we are just not documenting and utilizing the data properly in order to take our business to the next level. In another light, there are several other metrics that will be very helpful to our company which we have not even begun to track.”

Not only was this training seminar to increase the effectiveness of the business, but it allowed for lots of team bonding (including a great lunch!!).

Derek Van Der Kloet, Wills HSE Coordinator, shared; “[the] training “Using Metrics to Make Your Business Even More Effective” was time well spent. There was support and interest from all attending and good discussion came from questions that were asked.  I appreciated the chance to learn together and meet with my peers to grow as a team.  Wills offering this training and investing in the supervisors by providing tools they can apply to make us and our customers better is a great initiative.  It allowed us to think about our processes and what we do and how we can track the work we perform.

Wills Transfer thanks Mark Thomas of META Management Consulting for allowing the opportunity to learn about warehouse metrics, gain trust from peers, and receive motivation for future initiatives.
