Wow what a success our 2021 Summer Interns were!

What is TOP?

The Talent Opportunities Program (TOP) is an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, designed to help employers in Canada hire college and university students to work on placements.

Now, without further adieu meet our 2021 Summer Interns.

Brockville Intern

Wills 2021 Summer Intern Emilia Benoit
Hi! My name is Emilia Benoit and I attend Fulford Academy. This summer I was an Office Assistant at Wills Transfer.
Most days, I scanned files, did COVID sanitization, as well as helping with data entry into Wills’ WMS system. Actually, I had never worked at a warehouse before, so this was a whole new experience for me.
I would say the best part about working at Wills Transfer were the people. Everyone is so kind and happy to help. It was a very fun and productive work environment.
My dream is to become a lawyer someday. The experience of this internship will help with my dream as it familiarized me with a professional office setting.
I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me, and I enjoyed working at Wills Transfer this summer!

Perth Intern

Intern Patrick Yanosik
Patrick Yanosik. I attend Carleton University working towards my bachelor’s degree in Business.
Accepting a summer internship at Wills Transfer was an exciting prospect for me. Previously, I worked in the food service industry so I was interested to see what the challenges would be for me working at a warehouse.
Firstly, Wills Transfer has a very rewarding work environment. There was a wide range of products in and out of the warehouse. Paper rolls, bath bombs, car parts, packaging, and materials for 3M. It is amazing to know that I was part of a massive supply chain.
Secondly, learning to drive a forklift was quite intimidating, but actually became quite enjoyable. Grabbing that really hard to reach block or shuffling the last item onto a trailer was a satisfying feeling.
Finally, Wills Perth was respectful and welcoming. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to work at Wills, and I hope to come back next year.

Ottawa Intern

Intern Maxwell Ernst
Maxwell Ernst, I am enrolled in E-Supply Chain Management at Algonquin College. My first year of the program was amazing, so I applied to Wills Transfer’s Internship to learn more about supply chain management.
Each workday began with a task such as picking orders or cycle counting.
The work atmosphere was positive, vibrant and the staff were quick to help anytime someone had a problem or just a question.
The level of trust between the employer and the employee was refreshing. If I experienced an issue, a supervisor was always nearby to assist.
Surprisingly, I enjoyed the Tuesday and Thursday “Toolbox Talks” that keep employees informed with changes and safety tips.
My favorite part about working at Wills was the people. The staff are beyond amazing. Great sense of humor and a work ethic that created the perfect work mix.
I will forever remember Wills Transfer and can’t wait to take the logistic experience I’ve gained into my future.

Shell Intern

Wills 2021 Summer Intern Lauren Hart
Hi! My name is Lauren Hart. This summer I worked at Wills Transfer, Shell Division under the TOPS Internship program. I currently attend Queens University, majoring in Environmental Science. Working at the Shell lab, I got hands on experience, much of which is transferable to my field of study.
I was surrounded by a team of experienced lab members who were encouraging and understanding. My coworkers always created a friendly environment on a day-to-day basis, which I noticed right from the start.
A typical day for me began at 7:00 AM with testing the quality of various samples and continued until my day ended at 3:00 PM.
Flexible hours, depending on my needs, and being treated to Employee meals were a couple of the things I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Wills Transfer, Shell Division. I hope to come back again next year.

Shell Intern

Wills 2021 Summer Intern Emma Onstein
Hello, my name is Emma Onstein. I am currently a third-year student at Carleton University in Criminology. My future plan is to pursue a career in Policing and then work my way up to Sergeant or Detective.
Working as a summer student at Shell has shown me many great qualities that I will carry with me through my career: leadership, hard work ethic and initiative.
Within the first week, I could see that the employees were not only co-workers but friends. Always willing to put their work on pause to help you. I started at Shell with no experience, but they welcomed and helped me no matter how busy they were.
Some highlights throughout would be the team itself. How nice they were in understanding and the accommodation of working hours.
My Internship at Shell was a great experience, and the people there were very welcoming.

Smiths Falls Intern

Wills 2021 Summer Intern Owen Nichols
Hi, I’m Owen Nichols. I am in my final year of Computing and Data Analytics at Queens University.
And this is in fact, my fifth summer at Wills Transfer.
This year, I interned in the IT Department at Wills’ Head Office in Smiths Falls. There, I had the opportunity to be part of many projects that were very relevant to my degree. In fact, my primary project this year was the creation of a App that streamlines the process of adding employees to different Wills’ sites and accounts.
Either in the warehouse or in the office, the environment at Wills has always been fantastic. Not only were my coworkers extremely nice but also the BBQs and birthdays scattered throughout the month certainly helped to split up the work week.
This job has provided me with fantastic experience in my field and I hope to work part-time during my final semester this fall.

One of the Core Values at Wills Transfer is Our People Matter

And indeed our 2021 Summer Interns experienced that!
